MELBOURNE BEACH, Fla. – A man was pulled out of the ocean Monday morning in Melbourne Beach and airlifted to the hospital after authorities said he suffered a spinal injury.
Local 6 news partner Florida Today reports the incident unfolded about 11 a.m. today in the 5200 block of State Road A1A as Brevard County Ocean Rescue lifeguards responded to the site to help the man.

It was not immediately known how the man, who has not been identified, was injured.
Brevard County Fire-Rescue crews a few moments later and requested a medical helicopter. The man was flown to Holmes Regional Medical Center's trauma unit for further treatment, fire rescue officials reported. His condition was not immediately known.
An investigation is underway.
