Man tries to lure girls into Palm Bay woods

Camouflage-wearing man sought by police

PALM BAY, Fla. – Palm Bay police are looking for a man who tried to lure two girls into the woods.

[AUDIO: 911 call]

The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. Sunday on Carpenter Avenue Northwest near Americana and Jupiter boulevards.

Police said the girls – ages 3 and 2 – were playing in their back yard when a man wearing camouflage came out of the woods and told them his dog was sick and needed their help.

The girl's mother spotted the man and ran outside, prompting the man to run away.  The girls were not harmed.

A search failed to locate the man, who was described as Hispanic, about 6 feet tall, heavy-set, possibly in his mid-30s and wearing camouflage.

Police said they developed a person of interest but later cleared him.

"It's scary it really is scary," said Louise Steele, a neighbor of the victims. "You just never know maybe we should meet all of our neighbors because you never know who it could be."

Police initially said the girls were 4 and 2 years old.

A police spokeswoman said police have ramped up patrols in the neighborhood, which is close to two elementary schools.

They're also warning neighbors to report any suspicious activity.
