BRADENTON, Fla. - A deputy shot and killed a woman who ignored orders to stop during a burglary getaway attempt, Manatee County Sheriff's Office says.
The shooting happened shortly after deputies responded to a burglary in progress call Wednesday night.
The Bradenton Herald reports 26-year-old Joanna Ann Mojica and two men were apparently trying to get away when the woman drove toward deputies who tried to stop her. One of the deputies fired, striking her.
Authorities say Mojica was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Twenty-six-year-old Jesse Flores has been charged with murder in Mojica's death and the attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.
Under Florida law, someone can be charged with murder is another person is killed during a burglary.
The deputy wasn't injured. An investigation continues.
