Manual transmission foils Daytona Beach carjackers

Woman's purse stolen outside Campbell Pool

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Two men tried to carjack a woman at gunpoint in Daytona Beach but failed because they didn't know how to drive a manual transmission, police said.

The incident happened Tuesday as the woman was leaving the Campbell Pool off Henry Butts Drive.

According to police, two gunmen approached the woman and demanded her car keys.  The duo could not start her car, however, so they grabbed her purse and ran away, police said.

The woman told police that the men didn't know to apply the clutch to start her car.

Daytona Beach police released a sketch of one of the assailants.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to call police.
