“We encourage parents to speak with their children about gun safety and to be vigilant to make sure they do not bring weapons to schools,” Sheriff Emery Gainey said.

The school resource deputy located 21 rounds of ammunition in addition to a shotgun in the vehicle when he searched it.

Yeomans told deputies he forgot he had the shotgun in his truck.

“Marion County Public Schools has a no tolerance policy for weapons on campus. Our students know weapons, especially firearms, are never appropriate or allowed at school," Superintendent of Schools George Tomyn said.

“Students who make bad choices like this can ultimately face expulsion from our school district. That decision is made by members of the Marion County School Board,” Tomyn continued.

Yeomans was charged with bringing weapons on school property and was transported to the Marion County Juvenile Detention Facility.
