Marion County sheriff's lieutenant accused of harassing phone calls quits

Lt. was suspended with pay while under investigation

MARION COUNTY, Fla. – A Marion County sheriff's lieutenant has officially resigned on Friday following an internal investigation into criminal charges against her for harassing phone calls.

Lt. Rhonda Steplight-Jones first became under investigation after Jones informed her supervisor that she was under investigation from Orange County Sheriff's Office back in October.

On Wednesday, investigators were notified Jones would be summoned to appear in court for her arraignment, resulting in her turning in her resignation letter, according to a MCSO release.

Steplight-Jones was assigned to the Marion County Jail and has been with the sheriff's office since Oct. 1998. She has been suspended with pay, according to the report.
