CITRA, Fla. -

Families are on alert in Marion County after a student was diagnosed with tuberculosis.

Now health and school officials are trying to get in touch with everyone who may have come in close contact with the teen.

The Florida Department of Health isn't saying whether it's a boy or a girl, but we do know they go to North Marion High School in Citra.

"It's very scary. I mean, anything that can hurt your kid is scary,” said Amanda Kinnard.

The health department says the symptoms are obvious, and it’s only contagious when you see the symptoms.

School officials were notified Monday by the Florida Department of Health in Marion County.

Local 6 has learned the student was at school this summer taking classes, but is now undergoing drug therapy and is in isolation at home.

The student also rode the bus to school, which means those students could be at risk as well.

Officials said they're notifying at least 50 people that have come in close contact with the high-schooler.
