McDonald's implemented a new packaging design last week featuring QR codes that gives customers instant access to nutritional information.
All carry-out bags and fountain cups will display the QR code, which will offer "brand stories" and food facts with texts and illustrations.
"Customers tell us they want to know more about the food they are eating and we want to make that as easy as possible by putting this information right at their fingertips," McDonald's chief brand officer, Kevin Newell, told Mashable.
McDonald's has already released the design in the U.S. and will spread it throughout the world over the next year, offering the text in 18 languages.
