Gatorland was a new arrival just in time for Christmas: a 300-pound tortoise.

Lucy is a 27-year-old Galapagos tortoise who will join two other giant tortoises: Dean and Kendrick.
Dean is a 500-pound, 100-year-old Aldabra giant tortoise, and Kendrick is a 200-pound, 55-year-old Sulcata African spurred tortoise.

"People rarely have a chance to see them in the wild, and we are proud to provide guests with a unique opportunity to meet them and learn about them,” said Mark McHugh, Gatorland’s president and CEO.

The park has a history of tortoises when a 400-pound tortoise Albert was introduced to the park in 1959. Albert lived to be over 100  years old and died in the late 1970s.

Albert II died in 2006, the park said.

"Our giant tortoises are an important part of our history and ongoing animal education here at Gatorland," McHugh said.

The park opened in 1949 and allows the public to get up close and personal with the tortoises by feeding them for $5.
