Fire rescue officials helped the man, identified by police as Scott Morris, regain consciousness, and he became combative, police said.

Morris got into his vehicle and drove away, striking a Melbourne Fire Department cruiser, authorities said.

The vehicle came to a stop in front of Johnson Middle School a short time later,  and police tried to take Morris into custody, but he resisted and and injured an officer, authorities said. The extent of the officer's injuries were not released.

Morris was taken to the Brevard County Detention Center, where it was found that he tried to conceal two bags of cocaine in the police vehicle as he was exiting, officials said.

Morris was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, resisting an officer without violence and possession of cocaine.
