Melbourne police arrest 5 teens in school burglary

Police say they caught teens mid-burglary at Palm Bay Magnet School

PALM BAY, Fla. – Five teens were arrested after Melbourne police say they were caught burglarizing Palm Bay Magnet School overnight Monday.

Police said they were investigating Monday night after two previous burglaries were reported at the school, located on Pirate Lane, when they spotted five teens walking in the hallways of the school.

Detectives watched the teens, carrying a hammer and flashlight, enter several classrooms and steal items varying from loose change to candy, according to the report.

Police said the suspects also attempted to break into a floor safe with sledge hammers.

When police confronted the teen suspects, they ran in separate directions. Two were immediately caught and the others were found hiding on a rooftop and under a portable classroom, according to the report.

Among the five arrested were 19-year-old Aaron Hayes and 18-year-old Bernard Love. The pair faces charges of armed burglary, possession of burglary tools, trespassing on school grounds, theft and resisting arrest.

The three juveniles arrested face the same charges. Local 6 is not identifying the juvenile burglary suspects.

Hayes was also charged in the two earlier burglaries at the school, along with another juvenile.
