Handcuffed man recaptured after escape in Melbourne

MELBOURNE, Fla. – A handcuffed man who escaped from a Brevard County Sheriff's deputy avoided authorities for about 90 minutes before he was recaptured Tuesday, the Sheriff's Office said.

Ryan Dixon, 20, escaped on Eau Gallie Boulevard near Rivermont Drive about 3:30 p.m. Deputies were joined by Melbourne police in the search, News 6 partner Florida Today reported.

Besides deputies and officers on foot, the Sheriff's Office used its helicopter and had a boat in the water looking for Dixon. He was found shortly after 5 p.m.

Dixon had initially been taken into custody for violating community control for charges in Hillsborough County, the Sheriff's Office said.
