Melbourne police nab suspected doorstep package thieves

Police: Trio stole packages from two subdivisions

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Melbourne police have arrested three people accused of stealing packages off of people's doorsteps in the Rio Villas subdivision.

Police said witnesses reported seeing a green Chevy SUV driving through the neighborhood on Friday afternoon and three people running up to doorsteps and taking packages.

The car was then spotted at 1:30 p.m. in another neighborhood in West Shore Road and the trio was going up to the doorsteps and taking packages left by FedEx,

Police said they pulled the car over on Pineda Causeway later in the afternoon and found the suspects and packages, some containing electronics and toys and all in brand new packaging inside the car.

Detectives are in the process of finding the owners of the packages.

The suspects were identified as Richard Horton, 29, Nicole Heath, 29, and Steven Hann Jr., 34, and they were all charged with burglary and grand theft.

Melbourne police investigators are working closely with other law enforcement agencies because police said it is believed that the three may be responsible for additional thefts throughout the county.

The tag on the car was also found to be stolen.
