Melbourne police release surveillance video of Internet cafe robbery

Police say they hope video generates more tips

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Melbourne police have released surveillance video of an Internet gaming facility robbery in efforts to spark tips in the search for two more culprits.

For the past month, Melbourne police have been searching for two assailants that stormed into the Allied Internet Center on S. Babcock Street in Melbourne.

The video, which was released on Thursday, shows the front lobby on the morning of Aug. 7, where officers say about 30 people were inside. In the video, an armed security guard is sitting at the front entrance when a masked gunman storms in, with two people behind him.

Almost immediately, the security guard starts firing his gun and hits one man, later identified as Mark Spivey, 18, who crawled out, and was picked up by officers nearby.

"We're hoping someone will come forward and let us know before they decide to do this again, or maybe escalate to other crimes," said Sgt. Sheridan Shelley.
Police are still searching for the two who were with Spivey.

Police aren't releasing the name of the security guard but said he couldn't have done a better job that morning.

"His reaction may have saved his own life, and possibly the lives of others in that building, again not knowing what the intention of these three gentlemen was," said Shelley.

Spivey faces charges of attempted robbery with a firearm while wearing a mask and possession of a firearm with an altered or removed serial number. He is not cooperating with authorities in finding the other culprits, police said.
