MetroPCS cuts price for unlimited service

Company bucks industry trend

ORLANDO, Fla. – In a move that bucks the trend in the wireless industry, MetroPCS announced Tuesday that it's cutting the price on unlimited data service.

The company is offering unlimited talk, text and 4G LTE data for $55 per month for a single line. Families can get the same plan for $50 per month on their account's second, third and fourth lines.

MetroPCS, a wireless phone company that serves mostly low-income urban households, had been offering an unlimited data plan for $70 per month. Verizon and AT&T no longer offer unlimited plans to new customers.

The $55 plan is a limited time offer with unlimited potential.  It's a rate customers can keep for life.

"Even though the promotional service plan is available for a limited time only, customers will continue to receive service at the promotional price for as long as they maintain service with MetroPCS," the company explained in a statement on its website.

The Dallas-based wireless provider is the fifth largest, with 9.3 million subscribers.
