HUDSON, Fla. – A missing 4-year-old autistic boy was found safe in a Tampa hotel overnight, and a man believed to be his father, who's also a quadruple murder suspect, was arrested, officials said.
SWAT teams from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office and Tampa Police Department swarmed the Floridan Palace Hotel in downtown Tampa early Friday after tracking 28-year-old Adam Matos to the area.
The child, Ismael Tristan Santisteban, was with Matos at the hotel, deputies said. An Amber Alert was issued for the boy Thursday night.
Deputies said Matos didn't try to disguise himself and checked into the hotel using his own name. He asked about bus fares and appeared to be planning on leaving the Tampa area.
When Pasco deputies arrested Matos on aggravated assault charges, he said he took the boy because the boy is his son and that he loves him.
The search for Matos and the boy began Thursday after Pasco County sheriff's deputies conducted a welfare check at a Hudson home and discovered four bodies. The deputies found no one at the home but noticed a horrible odor. They walked down the street toward an area where birds were circling and found the bodies.
Deputies said the boy is safe in Pasco County with their child protection investigative unit.
