Mother, 4 daughters charged with attacking teen

Woman to appear before Volusia County judge

DELTONA, Fla. – A mother already on probation for theft is back in jail without bond.

Deputies said Shawnte Jones, 36, and her four daughters beat up a 13-year-old boy who never threw a punch.

"As an adult, you can't act on rage. She should have thought before she did it. It was teenagers, just kids going back and forth. When an adult got into it, that's when it changed the whole situation," said the teen's grandmother.

The grandmother, who declined to share her name, said the argument between Jones' two daughters and her grandson started over riding bikes on the sidewalk.

"They beat this boy not only once, but twice," Chris Anderson said.

Anderson was driving home and stopped when he saw the attack.

"It was a beating going on," said Anderson.

Anderson said some other people broke it up, only to see Jones and her two older daughters show up for round two.

"Just pounding on him and kneeing him and kicking him. He was in this position, so he was getting his face kicked and pounding on his back," Anderson said.

Witnesses broke it up again and the teen went to the hospital. He suffered minor injuries.

"I'm just grateful he's OK," said the grandmother.

Jones is charged with child abuse and contributing to delinquency of a minor. She's being held without bond. Her four daughters are facing felony battery charges.
