FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. - A woman working the evening shift at a Palm Coast gas station was found slain late Thursday night, and authorities continue to search for a gunman seen running from the store.
Deputies said a customer found the body of Zuheily Rosado on the floor behind the counter of the Mobil Gas Station on East State Route 100 at 10:21 p.m.
The Flagler County Sheriff's Office said Rosado -- a 32-year-old mother of six -- died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Within three minutes of her body being found, rescue personnel and deputies were at the scene, setting up a perimeter and searching for the shooter. along Flagler County K9 units and the Volusia County Sheriff's Office helicopter assisted in the search, but no one was in custody as of mid-afternoon Friday.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement was assisting in processing the crime scene.
Deputies say the killer is seen on video entering the store. He was described as a light-skinned man, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing blue jean pants and a dark T-shirt.
The man is seen in the video pulling his shirt up over his face and is then seen fleeing the store moments later and heading west toward the entrance ramp to Interstate 95.
"It's a quiet area here, everybody knows everybody, so it makes you feel sort of unsafe," said Wanda Mason.
Police swarmed the Mobil gas station Friday night, handing out fliers with Rosado's picture on them.
"Trying to find out I guess who killed the woman," said customer, Ron Jurke. "A clerk here at the station, I understand they don't know the reason why, except it's unbelievable."
Rosado's family is also in disbelief. Zuheily was the mother of six children.
"I just want my mom back," Rosado's oldest daughter, Teysha Silva, told Channel 4's Hailey Winslow.
"(She's) very hard working, constantly here, looking for extra work, jobs, whatever," Ray Tange said. "Always taking care of her kids, pushing them for school and everything. She would have her daughters in there on the computer. Took care of her babies. Good mom."
Rizzi Ansari, manager of the gas station, said the robber didn't take anything and thinks someone had a vendetta against her. He said Rosado was sweet and never seemed to have problems with anyone.
"She meant a lot," Rizzi said. "(An) honest worker (is) hard to find, very hard to find."
The victim's daughter can't imagine who or why anyone would do this.
"You took our life away. You took the person who provided for us; you took her away," Silva said. "A mother's loss, you can't replace that, you can't replace that, at all."
"She was a good woman, she was a very good woman, had a good heart and beautiful children," said a friend of Rosado.
Detectives said surveillance video of the shooting was retrieved, but it won't be much help identifying the gunman because his face was covered.
Anyone with information about the killing is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 386-313-4911 or Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida at 888-277-TIPS. Tipsters to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and could qualify for a reward of up to $1,000.
