Movie about Walt Disney holds casting call in DeLand
'Walt Before Mickey' being filmed in DeLand
Work is underway in a new film that follows Walt Disney's rise to success and the movie is casting people from Central Florida.
Producers are casting for extras in DeLand, which will be transformed to look like Walt Disney's homestate of Kansas, for "Walt Before Mickey," about Disney's early life.
One by one, people lined up and gave it their all for a chance to be in the movie.
Director Ari Traub said unlike a movie shot in Hollywood, extras could get significant screen time.
"In a Hollywood movie, those folks would be deep in the background," Traub said, "but these folks might be expected to do complicated things."
It's one of the reasons Rosemarie Vegren showed up.
"Did a movie a little while back here in Daytona Beach and I would love to do another one," said Vegren.
As a local actor, Vegren said it seems like more producers are making the trip to film in Central Florida. She'll have to wait and see if she gets a part, but she said either way she likes the rush.
"Do I get the part, do I not get the part and then there's just the joy of auditioning. You get to act even if you don't get the part," Vegren said.
The movie should hit film festivals and possibly major theaters next year.
