Christmas gifts possible target after homes burglarized in Sanford

Deputies to residents: Keep all windows, doors locked

SANFORD, Fla. – Deputies were putting up crime tape as News 6 crews arrived Thursday to the Wilson Road area, where several homes were burglarized.

Residents in the area gathered together, telling each other what happened. Some believe gifts were possibly targeted because it's the holiday season.

"We've had several homes hit in this area," resident Hope Beverly said. "People have gone in and done whatever. One person was home and (the burglar) didn't get in. He realized they were home and he left, evidently, or whoever it was. I think it was two of them."

The woman who lives in the home was too shaken to go on camera, but told News 6 the crooks ransacked her house.

"Her gate was open and then she realized her front door was open and then looked in quickly and realized things were all messed up," Beverly said.

That's when the woman called 911. But they weren't the only homes broken into. Deputies took to the app "Nextdoor," telling people homes on Wayside Drive were also hit and to keep all doors and windows locked.

Neighbors said they hope whoever committed the crimes gets caught.

"(I'm) very nervous," Beverly said. "It's Christmas season. People are kind of crazy, and, you know, we just hope that it will calm down and they'll catch whoever did it, because it's just not right taking advantage of other people."

Deputies said these are active cases and that they're working on gathering details.

One neighbor said she saw one or possibly two people running from her home.

Anyone with information can call the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.
