New $37 million UCF dorms open to students

Neptune complex houses 650 students

ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Central Florida's new $37 million residence halls are ready for students.

The new Neptune complex houses about 650 students, about 90 percent freshmen, in three buildings.

According to University spokesperson Chad Binette, students began moving in last week. The buildings are a little different than typical dorm-style living, many with private bedrooms in suite-style rooms.

Housing fees for the new buildings are about $3,000 per semester.

"I was actually kind of shocked, because when people talk about dorm life, they're like, it's dirty, it's gross, it's old. But this is brand new. It doesn't feel cramped, kind of feels like my bedroom at home," said Freshman Nicole Miranda, who moved in last week.

Each floor offers students a lounge with a quiet study room as well as a fully equipped kitchen.

Two new on-campus sorority houses, Chi Omega and Kappa Kappa Gamma, also opened in time for classes.

At nearly 60,000 students, UCF boasts the second largest student body in the nation. In 2012-2013, UCF awarded more than 15,000 degrees, more than any other university in the state.
