Florida gun owners get new digital tool

State unveils new website to renew licenses

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – More than 1.6 million Floridians have active concealed weapon licenses, but that number is expected to change next year.

Over the course of 2017, the Department of Agriculture expects more than 204,000 licenses to expire, which has prompted the state to make the renewal process more convenient.

The Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam announced Wednesday that Florida concealed weapon licenses can now be renewed online.

The new digital tool is in addition to the option to mail in renewal applications to the department's eight regional offices, including the one in Orlando.

According to the department, possible reasons for ineligibility for a license include a felony conviction and a record of drug or alcohol abuse.
