BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Being stuck behind a slow driver can be frustrating for anyone, but now those drivers could soon be facing fines.
Some call it the "Road Rage Bill" and Governor Rick Scott has now signed it into law. The law makes it illegal to drive 10 miles per hour under the speed limit in the fast lane, leaving drivers with some questions.
Carey McIntosh said, "It's a little absurd. It's contradictory according to some of the other signs that you see on the expressways."
Not every driver feels that way. Some drivers think that the new bill will make the roads safer.
Michelle of Viera said, "It's unsafe to have someone going way under the speed limit in the left hand lane and forcing the rest of us to try and pass on the right where they can't see us.
In 2005, then Governor Jeb Bush vetoed a similar bill. That one sought to require slower drivers to make way for faster ones.
"We have enough to be concerned about as we are driving on our interstates, more so than to have to worry about if we are going too slow," said McIntosh.
The law applies to any road with three lanes or more, and the only exception is when drivers are preparing to turn left at an intersection.
If you're caught going slow in the fast lane, it could cost you up to $60 in fines. The slow driving law takes effect July 1st.
