New Wawa near Orlando International Airport to cause 'gas station war?'

Wawa says prices will offer comparable prices to other Orlando-area locations

ORLANDO, Fla. – Officials say a new Wawa near Orlando International Airport will keep its low gas prices, which could pose a threat to gas stations in the area that charge customers more than $5 per gallon.

The Wawa, which is being built at State Road 436 and Lee Vista Road, will offer gas with comparable prices to the other Wawa Orlando-area location averages.

Local 6 found gas at nearby stations going for $5.59 at Sun Gas and $5.95 at Suncoast gas stations. Gas stations near OIA have been under fire in the past for selling the gas at higher-than-average prices without posting appropriate signage, so tourists wouldn't know they were paying more for gas until they were already pumping the gas.

The stations have since been forced to post signs with the prices, as part of a new ordinance from the city of Orlando. There aren't any regulations to how visible the signs have to be.

"In addition to our famous hoagies, coffee and smoothies, the store will offer fuel, which will be priced in line with our other Orlando locations," said officials with Wawa in a statement.

Construction has begun on the store but a grand opening date hasn't been set.
