MELBOURNE, Fla. - Florida's Space Coast is going to be receiving a huge increase in not just future aviation and engineering opportunities but also an increase in new jobs.
Northrop Grumman, one of the top aviation and engineering companies in the country, announced it will be opening its newest center in Melbourne, bringing about 1,000 jobs.
Over 200,000-square feet, the Manned Aircraft Design Center of Excellence isn't yet complete, but the center will include aircraft design work that was previously being performed at the Bethpage, N.Y. facility.
Fla. Gov. Rick Scott and U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson were in attendance for the opening of the center. Scott said that the company's decision to grow in Florida continues to build on the state's strong record of job creation over the two years, where Florida is No. 2 in the country for business growth and success.
"When you end up like this, you don't end up with 1,000 jobs, you end up with 1,000-plus jobs and you end up with a changed community," Scott said.
The new Manned Aircraft Design Center of Excellence is scheduled to open up in summer 2014.
