Obese mannequin 'horrifies' online users

Store mannequin making waves via social media site

Mannequins at retail stores tend to be thin, modeling the latest trends in slender sizes. But an unknown store is daring to model larger body types with a mannequin that is obese.

A user of the social media site Reddit posted a picture of the mannequin under the title, "Anyone else horrified that they make obese mannequins now?"

The post garnered hundreds of comments, and many are criticizing the overweight mannequin.

While it's no secret the U.S. has many overweight citizens--according to the Centers for Disease Control more than one-third of American adults are obese-- department stores have generally stuck to using slender mannequins to model clothing.

According to the Huffington Post, the user who posted the original picture said the post was supposed to be "satire," by making fun of another commenter's post about mannequins being disturbing.
