Ocala man accused of stealing money while filling out job application

Store clerk identified suspect based on application info, police say

OCALA, Fla. – A man was arrested Tuesday morning on suspicion of stealing money from behind a drawer at Martin Oil in Ocala while he was filling out a job application.

Anthony Thomas was filling out the application when he reached across the counter into the clerk's area, took cash and fled the gas station, Ocala police said.

According to a Martin Oil clerk, Thomas has been a known, regular customer.

The store clerk was able to identify the suspect's name from information provided on the employment application, according to police.

Ocala police found Thomas a few blocks from the store. He resisted arrest by one of the officers, but no one was injured, police said.

He faces charges of burglary, petit theft and resisting with violence.
