16-year-old Daytona Beach boy arrested after crash

PORT ORANGE, Fla. – A 16-year-old Daytona Beach boy was arrested early Tuesday, accused of fleeing a traffic stop at speeds up to 100 mph and striking a Port Orange police officer who was setting up stop sticks.

The officer, who was taken to Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach with multiple non-life-threatening injuries, was injured around 3:30 a.m. on Madeline Avenue near Clyde Morris Boulevard.

Police said the incident began when an officer observed a suspicious vehicle at The Pavilion at Port Orange. The officer attempted to make a traffic stop, but the teen driver sped off, police said.

The teen was arrested after crashing near Ridgewood Avenue and Nova Road in Port Orange. He faces multiple charges, police said.

No other details have been released.

The incident comes a day after a Melbourne police officer was struck by a pickup truck during a chase in Brevard County.
