Bender, assigned to the City County Investigative Bureau, is believed to have stolen prescription pain medication from a narcotics storage safe at the CCIB office on at least four occasions, authorities said.

The Sheriff’s Office began an investigation Wednesday evening when it was noticed that some of the packaging and contents in the office safe appeared to be disturbed. Investigators conducted an immediate inventory and discovered drugs were missing, officials said.

The investigation revealed that Bender took the drugs for personal use.

Bender, who has been suspended by the Sheriff's Office, was booked in the John E. Polk Correctional Facility and was released on bond.
