Airport officials using increased vigilance, monitoring operations

ORLANDO, Fla. – Ripple effects from the airport attack in Turkey are being felt all over the world, but travelers at Orlando International Airport  getting a head start on a long holiday weekend said they aren't living in fear.

The bombings at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport were on travelers' minds at OIA.

"(I have a) little heightened sense as usual, watching the news and everything going on around the world," traveler Meredith Cook said. "So yeah, (It's) definitely a concern."

Some of the travelers were on edge.

"When I heard yesterday, my immediate thought was, 'Great, the lines are going to be pretty long for security,'" traveler Kristen Donlan said.

Airport officials said it does not offer any non-stop flights to Istanbul.

An OIA spokesperson told News 6 that the airport is adjusting accordingly in the wake of the attack using increased vigilance and monitoring operations.

Many travelers said they are confident that the airport is doing what it can to keep them safe.

"They're very thorough, so I mean, if you're already at the top of your game, vigilance, you know, it's hard to get even more vigilant," traveler Mathew Lovell said.

"It's a little nerve wracking, but I'm confident that with (the attacks) they've upped security and are on the lookout for more things like that," Donlan said.

Everyone to whom News 6 spoke said they won't let the attacks stop them from living their lives and taking vacations.

"I don't plan to live in fear. It's the holiday weekend, and we're going to do this," Cook said.
