1945: Nagasaki, Japan, is devastated when an atomic bomb, "Fat Man," is dropped by the United States B-29 Bockscar, three days after the similar bombing of Hiroshima, Japan. More than 73,000 people were killed in the bombing, and another 70,000 injured. Japan would surrender six days later.
