1955: President Dwight Eisenhower suffers a serious heart attack while on vacation in Denver, Colorado. His recovery would require hospitalization for six weeks, during which time Vice President Richard Nixon, Secretary of State John Foster Dulles and White House Chief of Staff Sherman Adams assumed administrative duties and provided communication with Eisenhower.
