Clean up continues in Ormond Beach one week after Hurricane Matthew

"We are all luck, very lucky," one man says on storm damage

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – One week after Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti, Florida, South Carolina and North Carolina crews continue to clean up the aftermath of the powerful storm that killed four people in the sunshine state.

In Ormond Beach, one couple is trying to get things back to normal after a massive tree fell down in their yard.

Clark Briggs and Dana Gaffney has been taking care of Brigg’s parents home in Ormond Beach ever since Hurricane Matthew.

Brings said they just got their power restored on Wednesday, and they are working to get everything back to normal.

“I came down here the day after the storm to try to take her home and bring her back here and we couldn’t do it. It was horrible,” Briggs said.

“This street, you could hardly get down the street. There were trees everywhere,” he continued.

Trees damaged in the storm have been removed and cut down, but the debris left behind is everywhere.

The City of Ormond Beach said they are working to pick all of the debris up, but cleanup will take some time because of the extensive damage.

“If that hurricane was ten miles closer to the coast, we could have all been in trouble. We are all lucky, very lucky,” Briggs continued.
