ORLANDO, Fla. -

It’s a simple concept that seems to be saving time and money for busy families. Online recipe service companies claim to provide fresh ingredients right to your door with step-by-step instructions on how to cook the meal at home.

Blue Apron, Plated and Hello Fresh all work about the same way except with varying pricing plans and options.

Blue Apron provides customers 3 recipes per week, for either a family of 2, 4 or 6 at a cost of about $10 a meal.

Hello Fresh only provides meals for up to 4 people at a slightly higher cost.

Plated is the most expensive of the services, but allows customers to select as few or as many recipes they want delivered at a time and offers a discounted rate when a membership is purchased. Plated meals cost upwards of $12 per plate.

All three services are available in Central Florida, but Blue Apron was offering a free trial offer for new customers.

Karina Randall, a mother of three from Longwood, agreed to try out one of the meals with her family. Randall prepared a Blood Orange Salmon dish that she said she would have never thought to cook on her own.

Meanwhile, Local 6’s Nicole Pesecky cooked up a chicken quesadilla recipe with her husband.

“You have your meals, you know what you are going to make Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and it's already all laid out and all the ingredients are already there,” said Randall.

There were a few spices missing from the box, which Randall needed for the salmon. Luckily she had those in her pantry.

Both women said the ingredients were fresh and the recipes were easy to follow. The box arrived on time with meat, vegetables and even chicken neatly packed into an insulated box with ice packs.
