Orange County basketball tournament to benefit shooting victim's family

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Dozens of people gathered at Barnett Park on Saturday to participate in a basketball tournament to benefit a friend who was shot and killed at an Orange County park.

In February, the Orange County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting at Barnett Park. Deputies identified the victim as Alphonzo Johnson Jr., 27. Deputies said he was critically injured after a fight broke out over a basketball game. His friends tell News 6 he passed away from his injuries.

Friends of the victim organized the basketball benefit to raise funds for Johnson's five children.

Organizers said no arrests have been made in relation to the shooting. They're hoping the event will help raise awareness and bring justice for the victim and his family.

Organizers said the tournament is happening all day Saturday at the basketball courts at Barnett Park. Participants are asked to bring a donation to benefit the victim's family.
