Orange County 'Code Red' alert accidentally sent out to 65K phone numbers
Message sent during training exercise, officials say
Orange County Fire Rescue inadvertently sent out a 'Code Red' message to approximately 65,000 phone numbers during a training exercise Friday morning.
Fire Rescue officials at the Communications Center accidentally sent the message early Friday morning, which indicated "standby for an important message: Test AA." The activation was immediately terminated, officials said.
The 'Code Red' message allows emergency services to reach large numbers to inform them of critical safety information.
Orange County Fire Rescue says it "deeply regrets any inconvenience experienced by anyone receiving this message."
