ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - Orange County Sheriff's Office will be placing large trash receptacles throughout the county so holiday shoppers have a place to put their large electronics boxes.
Nicknamed "burglar boxes," the empty box to an electronics item is usually placed out at the end of a driveway with the household trash. Deputies say the box acts as an unintended billboard, advertising to residential burglars that the home contains an expensive item such as a flat screen television, stereo system or a gaming system.
Deputies will be placing the designated receptacles at the locations from Nov. 29, 2013 to Jan. 3, 2014.
Residents can throw away their boxes free of charge.
The list of locations is as follows:
Pine Hills Rd. & State Road 50, Hiawassee Rd. & State Road 50, Kirkman Rd. & Old Winter Garden Rd., Subway Restaurant on North Alafaya Trail, CVS Pharmacy at 5190 S. Conway Rd., K-Mart at 8725 S. Orange Blossom Trail, 1100 Lake Underhill Rd., and 12981 S. Orange Blossom Trail.
