Deputy with lights, sirens activated strikes car at Orange County intersection, FHP says

Woman taken to hospital with minor injuries

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A woman was taken to a hospital after being involved in a crash with an Orange County Sheriff’s Office deputy, officials said Wednesday.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Deputy Wayne Lenihan, 51, was driving south on Alafaya Trail with his emergency lights and sirens activated around 7:30 p.m.

As cars began to yield to Lenihan at the Colonial Drive intersection, troopers said Maria Reyes, 51, continued driving her vehicle at the green light and was struck by Lenihan's car.

Officials said Reyes was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.

The deputy wasn’t transported, sheriff’s officials said.

Troopers said the crash is under investigation.
