Health Department announces security breach in Orange County

Patient names, birthdates, social security numbers obtained from records

The Florida Department of Health announced Wednesday that there had been a security breach of health centers patient information in Orange County

Officials said the breach occurred when two former employees created lists containing names, birthdates and social security numbers obtained from patient records.

“We are taking every precaution possible and cooperating with law enforcement to assure all records are maintained with the greatest level of security possible,” said Department of Health in Orange County Director Dr. Kevin Sherin.

Officials said they will notify all affected patients in person or by mail.

The employees have been permanently removed from access to any Department of Health information. Officials said additional security measures to restrict patient social security numbers in electronic medical records have been implemented.

Health department patients should review their credit history for any fraudulent charges and can obtain a free credit report at AnnualCreditReport.com.
