ORLANDO, Fla. – It's more of a conversation piece than a vehicle when you buy a car that used to be a sheriff's cruiser.
More than 100 prospective buyers are expected to turn out for the Orange County Sheriff's Office vehicle auction on Saturday morning to register at 8 a.m. and start bidding at 9 a.m.
"You have to make sure you check the oil," said bidder D.J. James. "You have to make sure there's no water in it."
He's looking at one of nearly 70 cars that are up for auction at the Orange County Sheriff's Office headquarters on West Colonial Drive in Orlando.
Many of them are former patrol cars with the decals stripped off. Some are confiscated cars from prosecuted cases.
"I've bought a couple bad ones, but most of them are good," said James.
There are no warranties. They are sold as-is.
