ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando City Council green lighted new rules Monday restricting the use of unmanned drones around city property.
The new policies will ban unregulated drone operations within 500 feet of city buildings, schools, parks or an event with more than 1,000 people. Drone pilots can apply for city permits to operate in those areas for a nonrefundable $20 fee per flight.

The list of public event locations where drones are banned includes the Amway Center, Camping World Stadium, Leu Gardens, the Mennello Museum of American Art, the Dr. Phillips Center and any other site designated by the city as a venue.
The new rules also address the consequences of a drone crash within the city. The drone operator would be required to leave contact information at any damaged property with the unmanned aircraft’s registration number issued by the Federal Aviation Administration.
