ORLANDO, Fla. – Troopers continue to search for the driver in a hit-and-run crash that killed a beloved Orlando bartender.
Investigators said Aaron Jones, 28, was riding home on his scooter early Friday when someone slammed into him on Goldenrod Road, and kept going.
For friends and coworkers it was tough to hear Jones died, and even harder to learn how.
"He is the guy that every friend, every person, every human wants to have in their life," said Katie Johnston, General Manager at the Other Bar, where Jones worked. "When you say bad things happen to good people, Aaron was really, really, really good and this is really, really, really bad."
The Florida Highway Patrol believes Jones was on his scooter driving south on Goldenrod when a car turned left, cut him off, and knocked Jones off his motorcycle. As his scooter sat in the road, the car drove off, leaving the well-known bartender for dead.
"It's awful and it's unthinkable and it's the exact polar opposite of what Aaron represented as a person," said Johnston. "He was the first one to be there for anybody and everybody at all costs."
Troopers think the car is a white sedan and since the crash happened at at least 40 miles per hour. The car should have front-end damage. A security camera nearby caught the accident on tape, but with no known witnesses, troopers need help catching the hit-and-run driver.
As customers at the Other Bar left flowers or offered condolences, friends said they only want one thing: for the driver to come forward.
"Be respectful enough to come forward and be honest and take ownership of their actions," said Johnston.
The Other Bar plans to have a memorial for Jones on Monday night.
