Orlando business owner shot during robbery

Orange County deputies continue to investigate

ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orlando business owner was shot Thursday morning during a robbery, leading to according to deputies.

Authorities found the suspected getaway car at a home in 4700 block of Piedmont Court near Cadogan Avenue in Orlando.  Five men, three women and a child exited, but no one else was found when a warrant was served after law enforcement officials surrounded the house for hours.

The shooting happened around 7 a.m. Thursday at OU Metal Recycling on Ellman Street near Orange Blossom Trail and Silver Star Road.

According to deputies, the owner of a scrap yard was robbed by three men, one of whom stayed in the getaway car.  The others, who may have been wearing masks, robbed and shot the owner, deputies said.

The business owner was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

"It's very frightening," said Edward Majewski, who manufactures copper at a business near the scrap yard.

He added that the victim has been robbed several times in the past.

"I hope they apprehend the suspects, but they (need) more police patrols in the area or have tighter restrictions on what to do with these scrap yards," Majewski said.
