Orlando elementary school locked down after gunman spotted in area

Police search fails to locate man

ORLANDO, Fla. – An Orlando elementary school was locked down Wednesday because of a possible gunman in the area, according to police.

The lockdown at Rosemont Elementary School was lifted about two hours after it began.

Orlando police said officers were called around 7:45 a.m. to the 4900 block of Lacaya Way for a report of a suspicious person who may have been trying to enter a home.

Officers said a man with a gun was spotted, and he took off running.  The man dropped the gun, which was recovered, police said. 

Police searched the area, which is near Rosemont Elementary, but did not find the man.

The man was described as 6 feet tall with a medium build.  He was wearing all black clothing, including long shorts.

No other details have been released.
