According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, Exilasse was questioned in May after his son was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital with severe head trauma. Exilasse was arrested on aggravated child abuse charges after providing conflicting statements about the boy's injuries, deputies said.
The child was relocated to Colorado with his mother but died Sept. 1 as a result of his injuries, deputies said.
An autopsy was conducted and the boy's death was ruled a homicide due to complication of blunt force head trauma, pending final toxicology results.
An arrest warrant was obtained for Exilasse on Tuesday, and he was arrested on first-degree murder charges on Thursday.
