ORLANDO, Fla. - An Orlando home invasion in which a Lexus was stolen from a woman ended early Tuesday after a high-speed pursuit and crash that toppled two power poles, officials said.
According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, a person, later determined to be a juvenile, kicked open the door of a home on Radiant Circle late Monday and stole a woman's purse and keys. The woman and her three grandchildren were not injured.
The stolen Lexus was later spotted at a McDonald's on Hiawassee Trail, and the driver took off, reaching speeds of 90 miles per hour, deputies said.
The car then crashed into a wall near Pine Hills and Silver Star roads, trapping the driver, according to deputies, who said a passenger was found hiding under a nearby van. Silver Star Road was closed in the area but lanes later reopened.
Both culprits were taken to nearby hospitals. Their name and ages were not immediately released.
The woman said she didn't know the intruder, whom she said claimed he had a gun. A weapon, however, was not recovered, deputies said.
Crews were working to repair the power poles. More than 1,000 customers were left without power for less than an hour, OUC officials said.
