Orange County deputies investigate burglary attempt, shooting

ORLANDO, Fla. – A husband awakened by a noise in his Orlando home opened fire on an intruder, according to deputies.

The shooting occurred Friday morning in the 8300 block of Fort Thomas Way near Goldenrod Road.

According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, the man, his wife and their two young children were asleep in their home when he heard a noise. The husband checked the house and discovered someone inside his home, deputies said.

The man shot at the intruder, who then ran away before driving off in an older model silver sedan, deputies said.  It's not known if the intruder was struck.

The family was not injured.

Orange County sheriff's investigators believe the intruder got into the home through the garage.

While investigating the incident, deputies discovered that someone attempted to break into several vehicles located near the home.  One vehicle was burglarized, said deputies, who added that they believe the same person is responsible for the home burglary.
