ORLANDO, Fla. – The Orlando Magic hosted a back-to-school celebration for children in the Parramore neighborhood Wednesday morning.
The more than 200 children are all involved with the community program Parramore Kidz Zone. Magic Chief Revenue Officer Charles Freeman and City Commissioner Daisy Lynum welcomed the kids before sending them off to the festivities.
The children got a chance to play video games, enjoy a moonbounce and make crafts. They also got the chance to spend time with former Magic players Nick Anderson and Bo Outlaw.
"I've got pencils, colored pencils, soap," said student Brichard Joseph. "I want to say thank you to the people that gave this to me," he said.
Outlaw, Anderson and Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer handed out the backpacks loaded with schools supplies and hygiene products. The school preparations weren't contained to just supplies, but students got free haircuts as well.
Besides the Magic, the other donors include Amway, Dixon Ticonderoga and the Paul Mitchell School.
Magic CEO Alex Martins said, "The Magic believes in the power of education and understand the importance of providing all students with the resources necessary to be successful in school. We hope this event gets the youth from PKZ excited and ready for the upcoming school year."
