Orlando mayor honored for diversity initiative

Dyer honoree at the Harvey Milk Diversity breakfast in Orlando

ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer was recognized on Monday  at the for his continued work on diversity in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community on Monday.

Dyer was awarded a lifetime achievement award for promoting change and equality in LGBT  at the Harvey Milk Diversity Breakfast in Orlando.

“We embrace diversity in Orlando,” Dyer said. “It’s one of our greatest strengths,” he continued.

Dyer, along with fellow honoree Patty Sheehan, were recognized for their work in the LGBT community.

"What we are doing is that we are celebrating diversity. Not just LGBT diversity, but diversity in general. It's the coming together of a community to say that diversity is the building block to prosperity,” Stuart Milk, the nephew of Harvey Milk, said.
