Orlando needs your help designing new city flag

News 6 anchors offer their suggestions

ORLANDO, Fla. – Many people don't know this, but Orlando has its very own flag.

Problem is, most locals have no idea what it looks like or that it even exists. City officials recognized this dilemma and are enlisting the public's help in designing a new flag that will resonate with the hundreds of thousands of people who call the City Beautiful home.

Anyone is welcome to enter the flag redesign contest. The rules are simple: Hand draw an original design on a 3x5 note card, include a 150-word explanation on the symbolism behind the creation and submit it before the contest ends on March 22.

Contest organizers are asking that participants keep the design simple by using only two to three basic colors and avoid implementing any letters or seals.

For anyone who's wondering, the current flag features Lake Eola as its centerpiece, surrounded by skyscrapers and palm trees on a half-white, half-blue background.
